The tape slides on the carpet so we decided to test it by tucking it under the edge of the carpet where the vacuum got stuck. So far I've had success with a Shark vacuum that saw this and didn't tip over. The sensor for this seems to be a little hidden under vacuum. So if it's something delicate that you don't want to bump into, consider putting a strip down, maybe half an inch. The tape has such a low profile that you shouldn't trip over it, and it straightens up fairly quickly once laid out. It comes with adhesives for use on hard surfaces but I don't use them.
