I ended up buying two universal remotes for 6 devices, one for each room. I have a newer Samsung TV, Roku Ultra, Samsung Blu-Ray, Yamaha home theater amp in the living room and an older Samsung TV, Roku Ultra, Samsung Blu-Ray, and Onkyo soundbar in the bedroom. The remote controls everything. Their commonly used functions are nice and simple, with one big exception. Yamaha is notorious for making devices that only work fully with Yamaha remote controls. I can control almost all routine functions of the home theater amplifier (volume up/down/mute, source selection, processing mode) with the universal remote, but the universal remote doesn't turn it on, so I leave the old remote next to the couch primarily for turning on. Otherwise everything is great. There's an easy-to-setup feature that will always send volume up/down button presses ONLY to the audio device. This saves me the hassle because when I send volume up/down commands to the TV (which doesn't send the sound to its own speakers, only to the soundbar with the SPDIF fiber optic cable), the TV throws out an annoying notification. that it cannot perform the volume control function. When the broadcast volume is changed to "Audio device only", the volume commands only go to the Onkyo soundbar and annoying notifications never appear on the TV. I like the keyboard backlight in the dark. It took me a while to figure out how to get the setup working. You must press and hold the setup button for 3 full counts for the power button to illuminate to indicate the remote has entered setup mode. Although I was technically very capable, it was my fault for not reading the instructions carefully. Once I figured that out, I was able to quickly get everything up and running. The code list arranges the facility codes for each brand of device of a particular type with popular devices listed first, making it easier to find the right code.
