First off let me say that you should keep your bettas at least 2.5 gallons, secondly they need a heater and filter which they say is a mini have filters on eBay for $2 even less than the one I currently have in the tank. I bought this tank because I caught a fish that has pretty serious swim bladder problems and needs less water but is still having a good life so I won't be putting him down. There is a 7.5 watt heater (hydroelectric) that works well, it goes under the gravel and I bought a smaller filter to start the cycle in another tank. Please study the animal you are purchasing and understand that it will not make a good permanent home as there will not be enough room for a healthy, normal Betta. It's a tropical fish that needs to be kept in 78 degree water and google the nitrogen cycle so you don't. Don't kill your poor fish. 5 gallons are much better suited for bettas, live plants are amazing too. The Penn Plax World Aquarium Filter (Small) is perfect for this aquarium. I'll add a photo when I'm done using it in another tank. Again, less than a gallon of water is NOT a suitable permanent home. As for the people who say their fish are happier in a smaller tank. Of course they seem to move around more, they have less than 6 inches of space, let's use our brains πŸ˜‚ The less water you have, the more often they need water changes as ammonia builds up. You could have a 5 gallon cycle with plants, heater and filter for the same price and your betta would be a lot happier. As soon as my betta gets better and goes back to his normal tank or stops by, I'll use this tank for some ghost shrimp.
