Doesn't really do anything. After a few hours of research, I settled on this one because its coverage was better than the others. However, this is not a gel memory foam. This is a quilted rug with some kind of lightweight padding. It's like those Perfect Pillows, only thinner and the size of a mattress. This is equivalent to lying on a fluffy sleeping bag. It offers neither support nor protection against possible pressure points. Now if you want a small stool on top of a relatively good mattress then this is fine and appears to be of good workmanship. I need a futon and a fairly firm futon mattress in the room where I raise my puppy so my husband can get a good night's sleep. The only reason I didn't give it a star is because my mom thinks it would be fine on her bed with a pillowcase, but it's still a bit harsh for her liking. She has a 3 inch gel topper that she doesn't really like (NovaForm - available here and at Costco) so she's changing me. This is NOT gel memory foam like the NovaForm or DNA brands. It really is like lying on a flat sleeping bag. If you think this meets your needs then this is a good product.
