Review on Enhance Electronic Testing Efficiency with Extech TL809 Electronic Test Lead Kit by Joseph Hill

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Iron is good but not what is advertised. Not the best option for small electronics.

Overall the set is pretty decent. The case feels nice, all cables and fixings work well. We detail them further. The main issue I have is that the kit is not exactly as pictured/advertised. Carrying Case: The case provided is a very good durable case. This is a triple bag with 3 pouches sealed with very good heavy duty velcro. At least 2 pockets provide additional storage space for extra cords while still allowing the bag to close properly. Main Wires: The main wires are good, there is a nice cap on each end to keep them clean and free of debris. . The wires are 18AWG and generally very good. They fit perfectly on my DMM and the attachments snap in easily too, except for the alligator clips (details below). Probes: The probes are good, but more than I expected based on the product images. They double as banana clips, which is a nice touch. They have plastic caps that cover part of the banana clip, leaving only the tip of the test probe exposed. Again, it's good to keep things well insulated when needed. The main issue I had was that the sensors themselves are a lot thicker than I expected from the pictures, and they're even thicker with the caps. That doesn't make them bad, just a little distorted and not the best for small electronics. Mini Hooks: Mini hook attachments are very good, they have a perfectly tensioned spring to work with small electronics. The hook slides out easily and the spring tension is strong enough to keep it secure but not too strong to bend the wires. Overall, these are very good tips that work well with smaller electronics. Alligator Clips: This is my biggest complaint and the main reason for the lower rating. The clips I received do not look like product images. Please see the customer added image gallery sections for a full library of all the products in this set. You will see in this gallery that the included alligator clips are very strong. Those are good clips but not what was shown in this set. They are difficult to attach to lead wires and are too large and strong to handle many small electronic products. If you try to remove the insulator you will find that the clips are good but the end is completely bare. It was a disappointment. Again, you can find more details in the customer photo gallery. Conclusions: Overall this is a good kit and contains some good parts for small electronics but the test probes are larger than pictured and the alligator clips are far from what was expected from this kit. I would like to give this product a starting score of 4 or 5 as the products are not 'bad', they simply do not match what is shown in the photos and product information. This is a kit designed for large electricians or automotive electrical jobs. This kit is not the best for electricians. However, the price can be low enough to justify a case and a few parts that are good for handling small electronics. Please see the picture gallery and decide if they are worth the money. **If this review was helpful, please click the button below**
