I've been an RF engineer for over 40 years and a digital engineer for about 30 years. I was shocked how much worse this product is. There was an issue with pairing and connection in RX mode. - It's peeling off. I finally got it to work, and then when I plugged in the optical cable, the port flap willy-nilly broke - no extra pressure needed! The transmitter signal is weak due to an antenna. The FCC does not allow more than 100 MICROwatts (micro = one millionth of a watt) from a BT device, however this is INPUT power for the antenna (ie radiator). Antennas can be designed to have gain and thus increase ERP (Effective Radiated Power). This device has only ONE heatsink and therefore cannot increase ERP. Devices with multiple heatsinks typically double the ERP. I would like someone to make a BT-a-mit device with a yagi array heatsink and thus provide up to 15dB of gain (more than 4x the ERP but would be very directional but that's usually for the most people fine). Without a DIRECTION radio transmission system (i.e. TWO antennas) the signal level will never come close to the value specified by the manufacturer. Output and input section. I would be willing to pay twice as much for such a luxury. Also, good ADA conversion chips are pretty cheap these days. You don't have to spend a lot of money on Burr-Brown, TX Inst, etc.
