I have several rats, male and female. Some of them have very poor eyesight due to their pink eyes, but my dark eyed dog sees very well and LOVES running around the house in this ball! Paris Ann is very energetic and always looking to explore, so the exercise ball is perfect for her adventurous nature. I bought the size 10 with Paris Ann in mind and I think it's a great size for her. She may need a larger size when fully grown but is doing fine now (she is around 10 weeks old now). The lid closes securely, but I can understand that some people like to seal it with tape to keep it from popping open. There were no defects or tears in the balloon and it was packaged very well for shipping. It might have taken her two or three minutes to learn how to control the direction of the ball when she first tried it, but now Paris Ann loves chasing our pug and banging on my teenage son's bedroom door until he yells "STOP!" I would recommend this exercise ball to anyone who has rats that need an outlet for their energy.
