This grater is a mixed bag. The teeth are slightly higher than, for example, the Microplane brand. As a result, with things like garlic, the result is more like real minced garlic (compared to the Microplane, which is more like a paste). So I think it's an excellent tool for garlic. Hard cheeses like Parmesan are difficult to grate. Cheese gets stuck in the teeth of the grater. This will tire you. So I'll continue to use this one for garlic, which has a really nice handle, but I'll go back to the Microplane for a fine cheese grater.
