Review on Digital Soldering Iron Station Kit by Mark Jefferson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It's good until it's not.

This thing has given me a lot of work so I can't blame it too much. Temperature control, while accurate most of the time, is not really dependent on the tip used. Some of the included nozzles don't conduct heat well where they should, so you end up with inconsistent results. The wand itself gets very hot, so the plastic starts to degrade after a few months of use. Finally nozzles. If you need replacement tips for this thing, you're on your own. The included bits wear out much quicker than others (the chisel tip literally melted after a few months of use). It's impossible to find replacement nozzles for this thing. The Questions and Answers section tells you what size nib there is, but not where to buy it - do you know why? Because nobody makes them. It seems that the only way to get new attachments is to buy a whole new block. There are better ones out there, I probably wouldn't recommend this thing to anyone.
