I recently broke a porcelain mirror on my grandmother's dresser while packing for my move. When you've had an item for so long, you don't realize how many times you've used it! My guess is that the old mirror only had 2x magnification. This 8x increase is a must if you are of the age where reading glasses or permanent glasses are required! I can't believe how much easier it's gotten to see eye makeup applied. For years I didn't see exactly what I was doing. Without realizing the difference a higher magnification would make for me. Now I can see these tiny eyebrow hairs and of course facial hair that I didn't even know I had. Warning: Order the facial hair remover along with this mirror, if you are like me and don't have a high magnification mirror, you will be confused when you see how much facial hair the world has seen. the sunshine you didn't know was there! The price of the mirror compared to the weight and solid construction is amazing. I looked at a lot, made my choice and I'm glad I did. It is beautiful in chrome version, the base feels comfortable. I miss the beauty of my antique mirror as it was hand painted in porcelain but price wise it is the perfect replacement. While very well made, the weight isn't too heavy to hold and hold with a non-magnifying loupe. Make sure (in my case) my French braid is straight when I'm done. This is the size that fits me. But aside from being able to sit on my makeup stand, it's just the right size to pick up to see the back of my hair. A good choice in my opinion.
