A must for electronics fans, hobbyists, campers, etc. I'm deducting one star because the brightness quickly decreases after a short time. However, it maintains this lower brightness long before the batteries need to be replaced. I don't know if this is a function of the batteries themselves or a design flaw in the unit's circuitry. Maybe they should have designed it to use a different battery and keep the LEDs as bright as possible until the batteries were almost dead. Besides dimming too quickly after a battery change, this is a must-have tool. You just have to convince yourself that the original brightness you got with the new battery pack was never real, and if you manage to convince yourself you'll never have that "oh that sucks" moment. when you turn on the light. . . , because to be honest, the backlight is always very useful, no matter what. :-)
