You might think the design will hit the bottom when it hits the target height, but that's not the case. You should check the pressure reading once the base makes full contact with the vise jaw, or in my case full contact with the base of my arbor press. And you have to center the spring correctly, which is not easy. It's possible that with enough practice you can get a repeatable reading, but I've found this to be too difficult to play around with.
