At this point, shoes fit like a glove.

Columbia got it right because they don't look like hiking shoes, they definitely look like trail running shoes. I use this shoe as a casual shoe so the waterproofing issue is secondary to traction with the sole - sticky and sticky! I don't use bulky hiking socks so I can wiggle my toes and expect them to stretch a little but not as much as the mesh which I prefer.
