My wife wanted a waterproof camera that we could take to the beach without fear of damage. I couldn't find anything with really good reviews without spending about $300, which just isn't an option. For the price I think this is a decent camera. We haven't tried it underwater yet. The quality of the photo isn't very good, but I've seen worse. Dynamic range or contrast is not very good. If the subject moves or the camera shakes during recording, the picture may look strange. I'm assuming it's a "rolling shutter" that scans the sensor when a picture is taken, rather than a full still image. Most of the time you don't see it, but a few pictures look a little weird. The viewfinder is quite dark and quite difficult to see in bright sunlight. Battery life seemed fine when just using the included cheap battery. Exchanged them for a set of rechargeable Eneloops when they died. Didn't last very long but seems to last long enough for everyday use. From what I remember they lasted most of our week at the beach. I remember other reviews saying they couldn't open the battery/memory card door. . It's a bit difficult and tricky, just requires a little practice. If you use it on a sandy beach, make sure all the sand is removed from the pad area before closing it, otherwise water can easily seep in. Not wanting to spend big bucks on a good underwater camera I think this does a great job of what we want. For real photos I have a good DSLR!
