I used this little thing before the emergency to know how much I could depend on it. So far, the loading capacity seems very limited compared to what is expected. After 3 days in the sun, an Android phone will only charge from 42% to 55%. After fully charging from the USB port to the computer, the phone went from 44% to 77% charge, but it took 4 hours. That may be enough for an emergency call, but hardly if the power goes out for several days or weeks. What's good is that the self-contained device offers the option of charging via solar, USB or hand crank. It also has a flashlight and an AM/FM/WX radio. But it looks like you can only use one feature before needing a new charge. Therefore, you may need two or three devices during extended power outages.
