They just work best in lamp sockets
I used this as an adapter to use Westinghouse 25/4W R14 reflector lamps with an "intercap" in a standard screw in Edison lamp holder. It was a lot easier than buying an E17 base and modifying two bulbs to fit the intermediate base the bulb came with. It worked like a charm.
