It doesn't have a soft close feature but the hinges feel very smooth for some reason. If I didn't know better, I'd swear there were ball bearings in there. The plastic nuts that come with this toilet seat are designed to snug against the toilet when installed, eliminating the need for a wrench. You only need a screwdriver to install the seat. I think with the special nuts, Bemis manages to promise that the seat will never come loose.
