This pool mat is made from a nice soft rubber material; It's very flexible and absorbs significantly more vibration than most standard disc mats and is a huge improvement over my Audio Technica felt disc mat. That's the good part. The bad thing is that it stinks like crazy. It's clearly giving off a foul smelling solvent. smells of xylene. I didn't notice it at first, but when I opened the dust cover on my TT, the smell almost knocked me out. With any luck this will dissipate over the next few days and it will just be a nice soft rubber mat. Now it also looks a bit oily. ==Update== The smell went away pretty quickly. It lasted for a few months (I didn't wash it which may have helped) and now it's no longer a problem. In general I am very satisfied.
