I bought these for myself and two elderly people I care for. We are separated by 1 floor. BATTERY: That was my biggest problem. Having seen this as a problem with almost every walkie-talkie in this price range, I chose the Motorola option for its dual-power capabilities (like NiMh or store-bought AA). For my purposes, NiMh batteries last long enough; with minimal effort. We have 1.5 to 2 days before we hear a faint battery "chirp" on any of the three. However, we only communicate with each other about 4-8 times a day. FYI: - I have them set to the 0.5w channel which may use less battery (as opposed to the 1w and 2w channels). - I charged the batteries for a good 8-10 hours before first use (they were already charged about 2/3 of the way out of the box). They are only separated by one floor. I assume that the voice quality will suffer over longer distances; as expected. - No stuttering, tearing or voice distortion. LOOK AND GRIP: - They have a durable feel, with a grippy rubber coating where needed to provide a relatively non-slip grip. Rubber coated edges and antenna to protect against light falls. Waterproof - Lightweight, with NIMh battery. I did not test with 3 AA batteries. Looks professional, not like a toy or baby monitor like some. No fingerprints. EASY TO USE: Couldn't be easier to set up. Power on, select channel, select private channel. Click on the lock. Did. Some of the other walkie-talkies I looked at looked a little intimidating and more complex than they should be. You would be very uncomfortable for those in my care. - Very simple interface. The buttons are intuitive. CONS: The Y-charging cable (a dual-port charging cable designed to charge two walkie-talkies at the same time) doesn't appear to be able to fully charge two walkie-talkies connected to it. The battery gauge on both only shows 2 out of 3 charged bars after almost a day of charging. Charging one by one solves this problem. (I have a lot of micro USB chargers, so it wasn't a problem for me) WISHLIST: - Vibration when receiving a transmission. I often wear headphones and can't hear the walkie-talkie. Better Belt Clip#!%$!#! Perhaps a rotating holster so you don't spend more time wrapping a complicated clip around your belt than actually using the walkie. At least give us a lanyard - option in the menu to see the timestamp of the last received transmission (in case you missed it because you were wearing headphones :) - I wish you could buy a smaller antenna for it.
