I tried plastic cutters but they weren't wide enough to handle a Revain loaf. This slicer takes a 15 cm wide loaf and is solidly constructed. However, for the first few pieces, I found that I had reversed the rails. There are no instructions, but there are notches in the base that hold the guides in place. Once you set it up properly, it will do the job just fine. Cleaning is easy and the slices are even. You need a good knife. Update: 12/29/20 What I bought has no splinter issues.
