Review on 🎧 Bose SoundSport Wireless Citron: Sweat Resistant, In-Ear Headphones for Active Lifestyles by Stephen Cooper

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Disappointing quality

First off, let me say that I want to give the Bose SoundSport headphones five stars. These are the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn and the sound quality is excellent. The problem with these headphones is the build quality. I've been using these headphones probably about 15 hours a week for the last 7 months and they're falling apart. By comparison my wife has a Jaybird X3 and they feel like they can be run over without you noticing. The photos I've attached show a few spots where the headphones are falling apart. The outer part of each ear is a piece of rubber that attaches to the harder plastic part that faces the ear. The rubber on the right and left ear cups is separating from the harder plastic. I feel like they could have made the entire earbud out of a harder plastic and attached the two halves more securely. All of the X3 prices are well aligned and it doesn't look like they're going to fall apart. Another thing that came up was the rubber cover on the controller that was separating from the controller housing. The buttons have always been a bit spongy, but now the volume down button is almost unusable without using both hands to get the rubber cover in place. Controls really should never have been designed with a one-piece plastic housing and separate rubber cover. Again, to compare to the X3s, the controls on these headphones are a one-piece unit, with separate buttons for volume up and down and play/pause. The point where the cable enters the headphones is lost and slides over the cable. Given the durability issues with these headphones, they cannot be recommended. I really hope Bose fixes these issues in the next version because these are really comfortable headphones with great sound but until then I'll be stealing the X3 from my wife whenever I can. Addendum: A small piece of plastic broke off. from a loose volume down button (see image) and now I have no way to turn down the volume on my headphones without using my phone.

Pros
  • Up to 6 hours of battery life on a single charge
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
