Review on ๐Ÿงค Glove Station Super Tough Puncture-resistant by Ricky Habbani

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Benzidine is not a problem.

The gloves are cut resistant and comfortable. Haven't washed them yet but they seem thick enough to protect them yet thin enough not to get in the way of cutting tools. I thought I could share a few thoughts on this and why I don't mind that you find such a warning on a pair of kitchen gloves. California requires this warning for anything containing ingredients suspected of being metabolized to benzidine. Note that the wording is not "This product contains benzidine" but rather "This product may expose you to...". It is important. Benzidine is an occupational carcinogen and is no longer approved for use in dye manufacturing. This was the reason for the increased incidence of bladder cancer among workers who were directly exposed to the substance in large amounts for several hours a day for months. Benzidine passes through your system harmlessly until it builds up in your bladder, where it can cause problems if it's consistently present. To do this, you need constant, long-term exposure. For this chemical to cause cancer in dogs, the only other animal that causes bladder cancer, they had to inject it daily at a dose of 100 mg/kg body weight for a whole year. Probably less than 100mg of dye. all in those gloves. The dye just doesn't appreciably increase the mass of the object. However, even that 100 mg of dye likely contains very little, if any, benzidine. Such a dye would be illegal and of course the company would not draw attention to it when using it. Instead, paints use ingredients that may contain some "impurities" that can be metabolized to benzidine. If any of these ingredients are present in the manufacturing process, California requires a warning that the end product "may expose" you to the chemical. In short, even if the gloves were dyed with pure benzidine dyes, you would actually have to eat a few per pound of your body weight every day for a year to greatly increase your risk of cancer. However, the gloves probably do NOT contain any benzidine-based dye, but instead contain trace amounts of contaminants (like nitrobenzene) that can convert to benzidine under certain conditions, so you'd have to eat thousands or tens of thousands of pairs a day to be at risk. In short, don't eat gloves.
