Functional and beautiful, they even had a brush in a cloth pouch. That's right, they came in a nice fabric storage bag. I went for a bronze finish and they look very pretty. When I first looked at these straws I was concerned because they looked THIN and I was worried they wouldn't stretch well. They actually drank well and I was able to drink through them better than most plastic or paper straws. Curved straws are a little weird because I want to bend them more, but of course they aren't flexible. Straight lines are slightly longer. The included brush is the same length as a straight straw, so you'll need to brush it from both ends, not just one. Of course I was hoping for a neat plastic bag - or 4 or 6 - to carry in a pocket or purse when we go out. I'm not deducting a star for the portable holdall anymore, I still wish they were in it but I'll improvise!
