They call it a meat thermometer, for all types of cooking, and of course I see it. However, because it measures a wide range of temperatures, it has many uses. In my case, I need to monitor the internal temperature of my hives, especially in winter. Bees gather deep in the hive and vibrate their wing muscles to generate heat. It's hard to believe, but they can sustain temperatures as high as 90 degrees Fahrenheit, allowing them to survive the colder months. I cannot open the hive to check on them during this time as they lose heat and this can kill them. Enter this thermometer - literally. I drilled holes in the center of the hive. Without even opening the lid, I plug in a probe and take the temperature, which confirms the health of my colonies. It's easy to use, easy to read, and effective. Another use: I humuse horse and cow manure for our vegetable and orchard. I put raw manure, grass clippings, etc. in a compost heap. The decomposition process releases its own heat. I need to know when the internal temperature is above 140°F as that is when the weed seeds will die - an absolutely necessary step. (Of course I wipe the probe with alcohol between uses!). This probe thermometer measures from a minimum of -58°F to a maximum of 572°F. This should be more than enough for whatever purpose you want! For less than $15, this is a good deal.
