Review on Smart Outdoor Outlet Compatible HomeKit by Adrian Retana

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good product, quality could be a bit better

As I have many other Meross devices at home, I bought this one to be able to turn the Christmas lights on and off using the Google Home speakers. Instead of using another brand I went with this one. I'm glad I did. In short, it works as intended and is reliable, like all of my Meross devices. I can turn each socket on and off individually or all at once. Long story (with pictures inside and out) The packaging was perfect. Easy to open and easy to understand assembly instructions. It only supports 2.4GHz. I think this is better as there is more distance from the hotspot than the others. It doesn't require much bandwidth. If you are using the same SSID for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, you may need to disable 5GHz to set up your device. I set it to a hidden SSID which was easy too. Just follow the instructions and you're done. This showed up immediately in my Google Home app as I had already linked the Meross account for my other devices. build quality. In my opinion it would have gotten an 8 out of 10. When I opened the box, the rubber plugs didn't fit fully into the socket. The left and right covers protruded slightly where they attached to the device and didn't quite fit. The black case also has a clear warning label printed in yellow ink. This is IMPOSSIBLE to read! I had to take it off to see what it was warning me about. It made me decide that I had to look within because that's what I do. After removing the screws inside, everything seemed perfect for the most part. No bad solder joints, everything is securely fastened. Here I found a problem with the plastic lids. After removing the circuit board inside I noticed that the hot leg of the input wires didn't have all the strands through the hole in the circuit board. Understandable, but not acceptable to me. I soldered it and soldered it correctly. Due to the design, the plastic plug covers cannot fit completely into the socket on the left and right side because the housing screws stand up. I had to cut the rubber ring on the lid retainer to allow it to fully retract and "seal". In terms of weather resistance, as it's only IP44 it is said to only protect against splashing water. I would not place this outlet near rain/snow. The spatter seems to be able to penetrate easily. The only protection are the rubber covers on the sockets. All in all, this is a great switched outlet, well suited for Christmas lights and the like, as long as the box isn't exposed to the weather. I recommend buying.
