I have used OBD readers many times and saved money almost every time. If the fault light comes on and I can't figure out what it is, I take out the OBD reader and find out it's a fuel problem, probably because the gas cap wasn't on properly. You don't have to take it to a mechanic. Clear the code with the reader and you're good to go. The same applies to a number of other problems. This can lead to wrong assumptions being made. Your fault light comes on but the machine seems to be running fine so hope it's a minor problem and clear the codes. Three months later the same code keeps appearing and you don't know what the exact reason is - the code CAN be called by many different things and is notorious for coming back no matter what you've replaced. So you hope that the problem is minor and clean the code again in the hope that if the problem is real, it will come back with clearer symptoms, allowing for a diagnosis. But maybe you're just missing something important. You really need to know your car's behavior and be able to assess symptoms that others may not notice if you're going to use it willy-nilly to clear codes. which caused the check engine light to come on on my wife's Subaru. The code that came with the light has been known to keep popping up in your car no matter what part you replace, but youtube repair videos suggest it's probably a bad manifold air/fuel ratio sensor , and they advise you to use this OBD device's real-time ability to read voltage levels on the sensor to check if that's the problem. This type of accurate problem detection is a great strength of these scanners. I've used bluetooth scanners that communicate with my phone in the past, along with the Torque app on my phone to run similar diagnostics, but I'm tired of all the clumsy workarounds to get the bluetooth connection working and get the information that i need. . This particular scanner is much more reliable and easier to use. This scanner can bleed the ABS system in many types of cars (check if it works in your car). It can also analyze codes in the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System or Airbags). Crash data cannot be deleted. It can clear oil codes and work with a range of other systems that cheaper OBD readers can't. Provides the ability to update information for new vehicles from the Foxwell website.
