Review on Wi-Fi router ASUS RT-AC66U, black by Daniel Young Joong H ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I was surprised by the quality for the price.

If you have a modern TV with USB ports and you constantly run from the computer to the TV and poke flash drives with downloaded movies, then this router is for you. Because, most likely, your TV can connect to the network and play movies directly from the network storage (router with a flash drive or external hard drive connected to it). That is why I took it in order to get rid of the computer when downloading and watching movies on TV. In this regard, the router justified itself 100% You can control the router via the Internet through the application on your smartphone. Wherever you are, you can download any file. And also then view the downloaded. Mostly a device for geeks. You can also connect home surveillance cameras to it and they will record video on the same external hard drive. These videos can be accessed from the internet through the ASUS aiCloud app. This application will allow you to view what your camera recorded while you are away from anywhere where there is Internet.

Pros
  • Built-in media server and torrent client. It freezes extremely rarely and then only because it tried to upload too many torrents to the USB disk at the same time. With adequate use, it does not hang for several months I don’t know how relevant this is today, but I’ll still add - support for WiFi 5 GHz and the 8022022ac standard. This is important in apartment buildings.
Cons
  • The bottleneck of the system is the speed of writing to disk via USB 2.0. It makes a maximum of ~ 1.5-3 MB / s. But if you are not in a hurry, then one standard movie will be downloaded in 5-10 minutes. And for the whole day while you are at work, he will pump you so much that you can’t see through the evening. Added: the speed of writing to external USB storage depends on what exactly is being recorded, if you download a movie with the built-in downloader (torrent client) of the router (ASUS Download Master) - the speed will be low, because the loader itself loads the router's processor well and write speed to the media falls. Added2: I tried to conduct an experiment - I downloaded movies via torrent on a computer, and then transferred them over the network to a router. The write speed increased to 5-6 megabytes per second.
