I bought this EWM-508 as an alternative to larger gears for small jobs. It is great. I've used it to run 3/32 7014 on 1/8" and 3/16" mild steel only the performance of the machine was about 30%. A few pounds rod burned, machine worked fine. The only thing I did to modify it was get some DIN adapters so I could use my full size Tweco ground clamp and Stinger. It weighs almost nothing and is very simple. Just a current regulator and a power switch. That's not the level compared to a good branded car. Starting the arc requires a bit more skill and the arc isn't as stable or smooth. You have to keep a very small distance, otherwise your arc will fizzle out. I don't expect this car to be extremely reliable, but it's not a $1,300 Maxstar either. The carrying handle feels a little wobbly. Overall I expect it will be very useful for small field repairs and light great work.
