Not bad, but not great - must be used under 3 "

Several similar versions of this mic are available for sale. I tested several. Everyone has the same problems, and they are probably all using the same manufacturer's microphones in their product, whether or not there is a built-in microphone volume control, blinking LEDs or not. Same performance. Limited. Listed as a condenser microphone, which by definition must be a very sensitive microphone that requires power to work properly, by design it must pick up your voice and any noise (environment) in a distant area. (That's why they're often used in studios where ambient noise can be controlled.) However, these mics behave like dynamic mics with limited sensitivity unless you're within 2 or 3 inches. This isn't possible with a desktop mount unless you're leaning forward to speak into the microphone. For example, at 2 inches, bass (low sounds) and treble (trebles) are relatively good for a cheap microphone, but at 12 inches, the volume drops significantly, as does the bass. The noise level (electronic noise can be heard when the room is quiet) is noticeable. Not scary, but clearly audible when all is quiet. Still a decent mic, but not for regular desktop use. It actually requires a pole mount or headset to get it closer to your mouth. Best Microphone: I bought a larger ZINGYOU desktop mic (larger diaphragm condenser) (again, I see the same mic from many manufacturers) for $20 here at Revain, which has significantly better audio pickup and a quieter noise floor than a mic with adjustable gain (volume). good voice reproduction throughout the range at 12-18 inches, a headphone jack on the mic to hear how it sounds live and a pop filter. dynamic mic, close to the mouth but don't expect condenser quality. On the PC, the volume is too low unless it's 3 inches or less, but still significantly better than my built-in mic in a new Lenovo laptop.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
