I usually make my own CAT 5 cable and it worked fine but for cables longer than 10 feet I could cannot constantly achieve the 1 GB transfer rate. Comcast recently downgraded our service to a "free" download speed of 150MB, so I wasn't happy when I was only able to increase the download speed to 96MB.
