Review on ☕️ KitchenAid Blade Coffee and Spice Grinder Combo Pack - Onyx Black: The Perfect Grinding Solution for Your Kitchen by Andrew Lyons

A great idea; poor workmanship and low-quality materials

I was very happy to have found a grinder that can brew coffee separately from spices and is easy to clean - just pop the removable bowls in the dishwasher. That's theory. Here's what happens in practice. The meat grinder is smooth, with a powerful motor that grinds everything. Everything else is garbage. 1) The gears that transfer power to the blades are made of soft plastic and don't last long. It's a feature of Kitchen Aid: I had to throw away a great blender because gears made of a similar material melted when I was mixing hot soup. 2) The metal wings under the bowls (they snap onto the gears) are made of base metal that will corrode in the dishwasher. This is also a Kitchen Aid thing. Anyone who has ever put a whisk from their mixer in the dishwasher will notice that the shaft is discolored and corroded - only the wires are made of stainless steel and really dishwasher safe. 3) The lids on the smaller bowls aren't tight enough to prevent the hard spices from lifting the lid while chopping - it's a complete mess. This can be avoided by placing a folded paper towel or specially cut foam material between the bowl lid and the grinder lid. But seriously? Why on earth would I want to build a spice mill? These caps must be screw caps. 4) There is no lid for the larger bowl that I plan to use for coffee. They are all crooked, which tells me the problem is with the machining of the bowl and not a specific lid. Having owned a stand mixer, hand mixer, hand blender and now this one, I can't imagine why Kitchen Aid has such a reputation. . The motors are certainly powerful and will likely last forever, but if the key parts don't fit properly or don't last long, you'll still have to throw everything away. And there's no excuse for parts of a kitchen appliance that can't be cleaned in the dishwasher. No more Kitchen Aid for me, thanks.
