Review on πŸ“Ί Micca MPLAY-HD Mini: Ultimate Full-HD Digital Media Player for USB Drives and SD Cards by Bill Wasson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It would be perfect if they fixed a few problems

After using this player for a while I had to change 3 stars to 1. The extremely loud clicking of the remote control is so annoying that I want to throw it against the wall. I thought I'd get used to it, but it gets more annoying with every click. I had an old micca player that was perfect but died. I checked out some new players and this one is by far the best. So why 3 stars? Because they forgot a few key functions. Pros: - Plays most files - Runs on a 5TB drive even though the 4TB limit is advertised - The remote control makes it easy to skip to the next video, fast-forward, etc. - You have a shuffle video Added feature which is good (but see below). Cons: - No way to sort items by date. My old Mickey had this and it was incredibly helpful. This can easily be fixed with a future firmware update. The video shuffle feature repeats after a few items instead of randomly playing all items in the folder. Also a firmware fix. The random video function does not display the correct file name. It plays correctly, but you have no way of knowing what file it is. - If you press "Previous" in random video mode, it will jump to the random video instead of the previous one. - It's actually too small. It moves around the table due to the tension of the cables. It would be nice to make it bigger and add two more USB ports. - Does not use the original aspect ratio. The video will always be stretched no matter which mode you set. It even extends its own menus. - The menus have annoying backgrounds that don't make sense. - The remote control makes very loud, annoying clicks every time you press a button. Tactile feedback is good, but loud clicks are bad. The old Micca EP950 was much better in almost every way. Too bad it's no longer available. This one is still better than all the other new vendor models I've tried, but Micca has taken a big step backwards in their firmware.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Periodicity
