Invest in a good cooler.

Although it's a good idea anyway since many CPUs are overclocked these days, you can improve performance by choosing a better CPU cooler. I went the cheap route, actually I thought it was middle of the road since the Thermaltake Contac Silent 12 is rated at 150W. I figured I could get away with a $30 cooler since I don't plan on overclocking. This cooler couldn't even handle standard CPU settings. In benchmarks, the processor warmed up to 80 degrees Celsius in seconds and gradually reached 90 degrees when I put it on the gas. Temperatures are more reasonable in more real-world tests under base load, but the Contac Silent 12 often has to increase fan speeds to 100% to maintain that speed, and it's not quiet at that speed. I know someone will say it's because the default settings on the motherboard overclock the processor beyond the Intel recommended settings. Well that was one of the first things I checked and that's not the case here. Despite what some YouTubers may or may not have said, not all motherboards do. This is a great processor that complements my workload well (no gaming here). The new cooler is the Reeven Justice, which is now $45. I have a 120mm fan of the same size, but it has six heatpipes instead of four, and the case is about 50% thicker and the fins are closer together. Although the temperatures are still quite warm, they have dropped by 8-10 degrees in Cinebench R-20. It still hits 80-82 degrees Celsius, but instead of hitting 80 straight away like it used to, it keeps going until the rendering is almost done and seems to flatten out out there. Now I'm more comfortable with temps when they're not hanging from the ceiling, especially since a full load on the whole core isn't a typical workload for me. The fan is significantly quieter during normal use. I would recommend this cooler to anyone looking for a good compatible cooler.
