Review on ๐Ÿ“ป Black NMO-Mounted Tram-Browning BR-140-B CB Antenna, 26.5MHzโ€“30MHz by Evelyn Jackson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I have used an NMO mount for a Browning/Tram fender and had no problems.

Along with the purchase of this antenna I bought a Browning/Tram NMO fender mount. I installed a fender mount on my 1989 Chevy pickup and just left the entire length of the coax cable intact. I hid a large cable loop under the dash because I didn't want to cut the PL259 connector and shorten the coax cable. Sometimes this causes problems, either due to the inability to solder the ground or problems with the SWR. After installing the mount, I went through the instructions on the bag that contained the antenna and noted the length I would likely need for the tip. I wanted to set it to 27.205MHz (channel 20 on CB radio) so I divided the difference between the two numbers mentioned and that got me pretty close. I cropped it to 46" and the result was a 1.0 SWR on channel 1 and a 1.3 SWR on channel 20. So I cropped another 1/4" which means the peak is 45 3/ 4" long. Now SWR. on Ch 20 - 1.0 and on Ch 1 - 1.1. Excellent. I ran the spoked wheel to the bottom of the antenna 1" to remove the black paint where it enters the mount. I'm sure it's not necessary. , but I wanted to improve the electrical contact with the base coil where it attaches. It's not rocket science and I'm glad the antenna was so easy to set up. How well does it work? I did didn't take it into the field with a buddy to compare how it performs compared to my current magnetic mount antenna wilson 1000. i will update my review with a distance comparison once i do but i can hear local traffic like truckers, that's ok i get replies if i d why please check the radio. Best of all, I think these fender mount rigs look the best. They might not work as well as a washer mounting a 9ft whip on the roof, but you avoid a lot of headaches by having a reasonable 4ft antenna sticking out of your fender compared to mounting a roof magnet or a long whip. This antenna performs SMART with everything else in terms of looks and won't hit every McDonald's carport you drive into. This is what you need if you don't want a BS setup and still want to use your cartridge for a topper or whatever.
