Doesn't work at all and causes problems with other drives

I'm pretty sure this thing is causing problems with the SATA controller on my motherboard. When this thing is installed and I insert a drive, all other drives (except the boot drive) momentarily disconnect and reappear. Very strange. I thought it might be a specific port or SATA cable, but I checked several and it wasn't. Then eventually many drives just don't work with it, and yet these drives work fine when connected directly to SATA ports.
