The self centering feature works quite well but still found it useful to use a center punch first as my eyes lack depth perception. The setscrews that hold the drill to the shank were very difficult to tighten the first time; Some oil or fat is needed here. Minor issues 1) This was my first time using this particular tool. There were no instructions included so I had to experiment to find out that the self-centering sleeve was spring loaded. 2) The gap between the bits and the self-centering bushings is narrow, so the space between the bits and bushings gets clogged with chips fairly quickly. It does not interfere with the operation of the device, but often has to remove bits to remove chips from bits and self-centering bushings. Note. I have only used these self centering bits on a regular drill press, not a hand drill.
