Partial revival of a GE freezer

After finding a 14 year old GE freezer (FUF17DPDRWH) for $100 on a local Facebook listing (of course it was working great when I found it bought it), I brought it home and it worked great for a while and then shut down, wouldn't cool down and unplugged the GFCI from the wall. Plenty of places on the web to try to determine what the problem is (or at least narrow it down). Did a resistance test on various parts and found that the freezer would cut my GFCI connector when it went into defrost mode. The wire/heating element resistance test went well, but if condensation forms on it (or the part is just old) it will cause current leakage and trip the RCD. The compressor windings were also fine, which means that the problem is not with them. During diagnostics I found a compressor relay on the compressor. After taking it off, I shook it and everything was fine. I have no idea how old he is. Anyway, I used this Supco product to replace it and it's been working great ever since. Mixed opinions on using this as a permanent solution or buying the $70 compressor relay part yourself. I need a new heating element so this is the priority for auto defrost at the moment. It's easy to follow Supco's instructions - just make sure you check and know which pins are which on your compressor. Many places on the internet explain how to determine this.
