I liked the ease of use and the quality of the beer that the Academy has been supplying for the past eight months. Then it stopped working, the brew group got stuck in the block. A call to the support number provided provided a link to a video on how to fix this fairly common issue. After restarting with a folded business card, I worked another two days and jammed again. This time the reset process shown in the video didn't work. Another call to support resulted in a request to ship the nearly 50 pound unit to a service center at my expense and include an additional $39 to cover the cost of shipping it back to me once the unit was repaired under warranty. The only difference between work and non-work was the coffee bought at Revane. I used coffee that came in a 2.2 lb bag. The 2.2 lb bag wasn't available for quality control reasons, so I settled on three 12 ounce bags of the same coffee. This is probably coincidence with my issue as the size of the bag shouldn't matter. In any case, Gaggia's warranty service is sorely lacking. I don't repair a device only to have it fail again under warranty. The buyer is wary of "hidden” costs.
