Review on 🔘 BISSELL air320 Smart Air Purifier: HEPA & Carbon Filters, Large Room & Home, Bedroom Air Cleaner, Auto Mode - 2768A (White/Grey) by Prem Robinson

I really wanted to like this air purifier. Great style, great volume, decent price, carbon odor filtration. However, there is one problem with the quality of the fan, which the manufacturer does not solve, despite the numerous reviews on the site and my own experience. It's also not designed for smooth, quiet airflow, which is more important than good looks. The short version is that they replaced the lemon with another lemon, ignored everything I said about the problem, shipped a replacement filter to an address FedEx couldn't accept, and then said I couldn't get a refund for the "5- Annual guarantee". because I bought it from Revain. Revain generously accepted the return after 3 months, thank goodness. Aside from a quality issue that causes the fan to rub against the inside of the case, it also has a few design flaws. The design ignores the principles of laminar airflow, making it louder than comparable models (including my old 2004 Hamilton Beach). The front "speaker grille" is a cloth-covered grille that collects enough lint to make airflow uneven and noisy, but not enough to prevent the HEPA filter from becoming clogged with fibers from clothing I wear dry inside. The many perforations on the air outlet look appealing, but do not contribute to a smooth laminar airflow. My guess is that the inside of the case isn't designed for laminar flow either, and turbulence gets loud above speed 2. At its lowest speed it's relatively quiet until you get some lint on the pre-filter mesh and the fan stutters. An uneven noise draws more attention than a constant flow. They need to clean the fabric pre-filter - have they ever interacted with their main target group, people with allergies and asthma? We just bought a car to get all that stuff out of the air and now we have to brush it off from the front so it gets up our noses and up our noses? loud mechanical squeak after restart. It's a quality issue that ultimately made me return it because it just didn't work properly. At least one customer has reported that this has escalated to the machine overheating and smoking, but Bissell will not be addressing this potentially dangerous condition. The howling noise on restart was separate from the loud airflow noise at speed 3-5 and very noticeable at the lowest speed. when the airflow is at its quietest. At first I thought that when changing the pre-filter (which snaps into place at the front) maybe the filters were dirty, so I checked by running the unit briefly without the filter. No improvement and it was clearly coming from the fan. My best guess is that it's misaligned and rubbing against the inside of the case. The noise went away after the unit ran for a while (correct with the filter) but reappeared every time I stopped and started it to clean. In the end the noise didn't go away and I had a one month return period ahead of me, so I called Bissell Technical Support. They assured me they had no idea what it could be after I told them it was NOT loud at higher speeds but they would switch to a new one. The new one had the same problem. They said they couldn't exchange or refund a second time because I bought it from Revain and not directly from the Bissell website. They said they had never heard of the problem, although there are over a dozen posts about Revain that Bissell's team have addressed on social media, and one of them became overheated and started smoking. This was really annoying because it felt like gaslighting - although it's probably just because the company is big enough that the social media team hasn't reported quality issues to the QA/QC team or engineers, let alone that the CSA has responded to questions. Phone. They are clearly not investigating issues with returned units - mine is probably in another buyer's house right now - otherwise they would have figured out that model had a quality issue and fixed it - even issued a recall. Part of the issue that made me angry enough with Bissell to ask for a full refund is that they insisted I made it, even after I told them the noise was not related to the filters ( I could hear it when they were removed). Fill the HEPA filter in just one month. and they had to "troubleshoot" (i.e. delay me until the return deadline) by sending new filters. I decided not to refuse a set of free filters but I never received them due to shipping issues. I told the agent I couldn't get FedEx at my apartment (another long story) but she said she couldn't ship it to a FedEx location because it MUST be shipped to the guarantee address. She assured me I could change it on FedEx website after shipping. No, they used FedEx SmartPost which the customer cannot change. I waited about 2 hours with FedEx and Bissell each saying the other was responsible. I finally gave up, hoping that "SmartPost" meant it was delivered by my USPS carrier, like some UPS/Revain deliveries. But that's not the case! And FedEx marked my filters as delivered when he got off the truck because it's easier than doing it at my apartment, but he got into a fight with my apartment manager and got kicked out before he could deliver anything. After a few calls to Bissell they agreed to a forwarding to a FedEx location but a week later when I called to clarify they said "No it was delivered last week we will not be sending you free items" and said nothing in my file about it was not. At that point I stopped communicating with Bissell customer service. Two lemons, ignorance of known issues, multiple instances of agents refusing to believe me and not documenting the conversation on file—this is a terrible business relationship. While this model has some nice features (digital particle counter, auto-dimming display, attractive body), there are plenty of other options on the market. Eventually it will fail, possibly catastrophically because of the smoke that will ignite the sprinklers and they will only slander me.
