Review on 🐾 Carlson Extra Tall Walk Through Pet Gate with Small Pet Door: Complete Kit for Ultimate Pet Safety by Hassan Tomlinson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Mostly strong, but there are a few things to watch out for when installing

First, this gate is more durable than I expected. It's mostly aluminum with some plastic parts. More on that later. The gate comes with all the parts you need to install it without your own tools. It also has a small pet door that a small dog or regular cat can pass through. So if you have pets and small children, you can leave the pet door open and the main gate closed. The gate also has a plastic mechanism that allows the gate to open in one direction or the other, or in any direction. The gate is easy to install in about 5 minutes, but there are a few important points to be aware of. in the assembly instructions (and note some things that are not in the assembly instructions.) 1) Not in the assembly instructions: The gate comes with an extension if your door opening is over 80cm wide. If your door shuts that wide, try inserting the extension and THEN the "spindle rods" and check that the BOTTOM of the gate will fit in your door opening (the top will not go in at this point - this is intentional and fits when you're done) ). This is important to check because if your doorway is 33 inches wide or more you will need to use an extension as the spindle rods should not extend more than 2.5 inches on each side when you tighten them. My doorway was exactly 32 inches long which means the spindle rods are extended 2.25 inches on each side of the gate and the extension is too big for my doorway. 2) Included in the instructions - when assembling the gate you must first tighten the bottom spindle rods, but not fully. Do not attempt to tighten the upper spindle rods first. I installed the lower horizontal gate frame flush with the floor, but you need to know that when you tighten the upper spindles, the gate is pulled slightly from the side where the gate latch is, which means that the lower spindle rod also does so slightly being pulled and the base of the frame is not level with the ground. You can also adjust the gate so the bottom frame is 2-3 inches off the ground if you like. 3) Included in the instructions - when you tighten the top spindle rods it looks like the top of the goal frame. is too wide for your doorway and the gap that the latch sits in looks too wide. Tightening the upper spindle rods, especially those on the latch side, closes the gap. This is intentional. You only need to tighten the upper spindle rods to ensure the latch closes securely but not too tightly. This is easy to set up. The door also comes with four plastic "wall cups" that screw into the door frame and spindle. Rods sit in these wall mounted cups for a little extra stability. I installed the gate as a pet gate so I didn't need wall cups and skipped it. However, if you are using the gate as a child's gate, you should follow the instructions for installation (this includes drawing a circle around the base of each spindle rod). Unscrew the spindle rods and remove the gate, then attach the wall brackets using the screws provided - you will need a Phillips screwdriver in this case). The only reason I give the gate 4 stars for "strength" instead of 5 stars is how the top spindle rods tighten and hold the top of the gate in place. Unlike the bottom of the gate, which consists of a single horizontal frame piece (after you bolt the two ends of the frame together at the start of installation), the top is a little less stable, as it has to have a hinge and latch open. Gates. This means that the spindle rod on the hinge side of the door is slightly looser than the other spindle rods. Don't overtighten it or you won't be able to open the latch. This is fine for pet gates too, but for baby gates it is very important to add wall brackets to keep the top shaft of the spindle from slipping out of the frame. This will require a bit of a tug or push at the top of the gate, but it's definitely possible if you're not installing wall brackets. Overall it was good value for money. I have used various baby gates in the past. This is much more durable than plastic or wooden airtight gates and is good value for money.
