Review on πŸ“š RockIt Handheld Learning System by LeapFrog by Steve Tripp

Revainrating 3 out of 5

First review from someone who actually paid $ for it - not worth it!

It's not worth $50 at all. I am so disappointed. "Games" is incredibly simple and also very frustrating for me as the controls are not always responsive. The games are also not very educational. And they're pretty boring too. I hate to sound negative as I've been looking forward to this release and usually love Leapfrog, but I don't recommend buying it at all. The device even has ads/ads for additional content that you have to pay for - such bad taste! To be honest I haven't given it to my 4 year old yet as I wanted to understand how it works first and he might love it (in which case I'll update) but I strongly suspect he will won't stop for the desire to play with my phone or tablet and will be disappointed by the lack of a touchscreen. I highly recommend Leapfrog Leapstart's systems - he loves them and they have real educational value (and they don't have built-in ads). Update: My 4 year old is (so far) very eager to play and explore with it, updates and new content added from extra paid game packs have been brutal. Full disclosure: I use mifi for uploading so it will probably be less awful on real wifi :) Update: I grudgingly admit that both my 4 and 9 year olds love it. I don't know why but I'm adding a star. They say it should be 5 stars but I'm an angry mom. :)

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • Dubious purchase for old people
