I was thrilled when I found the slim fit dress pants for my very skinny 4ft 9in 8 year old. like a regular fit in the waist but good thing my son doesn't need them. Therefore, there are no folds of fabric on the sides. The waist fits perfectly. And the length is longer than other dress pants we have. I have tried. They will actually cover my son's heel instead of stopping at his ankle. We ordered a size 8 in a fitted color. It's for church, but I see it worn on many fine occasions. no it wasn't a problem i'm very happy with it and would like to order it in other colors.
