I bought this item because most cars come with CD players but I haven't used CDs in YEARS. Don't think of this as a wasted place, instead of blocking the vents or using a sticky pad that will melt and stop sticking in the summer heat, get this item. You can place it anywhere in the CD holder. Driver side, passenger side or in the middle. Whatever works for you. It's also great that you can buy 2 and put them in there. One for the driver and one for the passenger. Hands-free - especially if your car has Bluetooth. Also the included magnets (they give you 2) are VERY strong. Actually I have mine between my phone and the case and it works perfectly. However, if you want to apply it to the outside of the case, you can do that too as it has a peel-off adhesive backing. It's very slim and almost unobtrusive, but still big enough to place the phone horizontally or vertically. I think it's a brilliant idea. It doesn't block my vents or break vents due to the way other holders are attached. As with the other holders, there is a foamed double-sided tape that sticks to the dash and will either peel off the dash or the tape will stay there but the panel from the holder will come loose in the summer heat. Not to mention the suction cup holders that stick to the window. That's ridiculous. I've never managed to hold onto it for any length of time. Very happy with this product. A++
