I have amblyopia (my right eye is weak) and I need it more than I have in the last decades of my life, so putting my hand over my eye wasn't enough. I've also learned not to cover mine more tightly without being able to open and close them. This was confirmed when I ordered a very nice cotton and silk patch. It is pleasant to the touch, soft, unobtrusive, but over time it begins to put pressure on the eyes. So, following the advice, I started looking for a concave eye patch. I've included an unflattering picture of my eye and my bandage so readers can see the shape of my eye and understand my comments about the bandage. My eyes are big and bulging and my lashes are long (especially after I stopped using mascara). So when I say my lashes touch the inside of the patch, that's to be expected. If all the pressure had to be taken off my eyes and lashes, I might be unhappy. My face is small, but it doesn't rest awkwardly on me and doesn't gape to let in the light. Overall I am satisfied with the product after the first use. Light doesn't go through. Not too hot (be careful, it's snowing outside) and doesn't let the cold through. My eye can move freely - as planned. Velcro is much preferable to an adjustable elastic as it even fits over my scarf so I can get it on and off quickly. The material is not entirely natural, but I do not intend to wear this gadget for more than 4 months. (Read "Looking Without Spectacles" by Dr. Harold Peppard). I wouldn't wash it. It looks like nylon glued to molded foam. So I think he could handle a clean spot but nothing energetic. On the other hand if there is a lot of sweat or eye discharge I would tend to make a cloth case for it or buy a metal eye cover and adjust it to fit a standard eye patch so I can wash everything, what comes dirty. If I could ask for a product update it would be a more subtle color than BLACK - maybe a general skin tone or gray - LOL. And maybe a more open curvature of the concave shape so my lashes don't touch the inside. If I come across anything uncomfortable or unsatisfying about this patch over the next few months, I'll be sure to update my review. I find the reviews very helpful, which is why I want to return the favor when I have so many questions when buying online.
