Works with iPod touch and GPS/Battery Dual Stand

I was looking for the best way to carry my iPod with the DUAL XGPS251 Portable Docking Station with GPS and Battery for iPod touch. Jumping into a pannier didn't work, so I took a chance on the Arkon handlebar mount. I saw some reviews that were concerned about the sizing and fit. Other reviewers have pointed out that the Arkon handles the largest droids no larger than a dual cradle, and in fact the Arkon case can easily fit an iPod into the stand. It holds and is secure and can be operated through the viewing window. It takes a little more pressure to get the touchscreen working, but it works. Also, the headphone jack for the stand is conveniently located right at the bottom center, right where the headphone jack is on the Arkon. The question of the fit satisfied me completely. I only tested the device once on my bike. I mounted it on the stem of my '88 road bike because there was no room at the handlebars and it turned out to be the best place anyway. I rode 20 miles in 75 degree sunny weather. The device worked great up until the 20 minute drive when I stopped in the sun for five minutes. When I tried to access the iPod, it gave an overheating warning and shut down. The combined heat of the iPod, the stand, and the totally black greenhouse effect in the sun turned my iPod off. at only 75 degrees heat! That's the only problem I have with this block. It is waterproof and has no ventilation. It's possible to unzip the zippers a bit - they're stiff and won't open on their own - but this could result in the iPod falling out or water/dirt getting inside. It is not recommended to leave the iPod in the sun in the case. I live in the Rocky Mountains and won't get a chance to try this out on a bike in warmer temperatures until next summer, but will try to report back next year. Perhaps the flow of air from constant movement will cool it - we'll see. After the iPod cooled down again, it worked perfectly in its case and for the first time I enjoyed seeing my real-time speed, direction, altitude, etc. It's important to understand the limitations of the case, but I'd still recommend it as a cheap and effective way to carry your iPod with a GPS mount. However, you must be willing to let your bike reach the next level of fredliness. :D
