I bought a size 10 and 12 for my skinny 8 year old son. Size 10 was very thin with shorter than expected sleeves and cuffs that felt looser than expected at the furthest buttonhole. I thought ok then a size 12 should fit right? nope! A size 12 fit loosely on his torso, with longer sleeves than usual and a cuff so tight around the largest buttonhole that buttoning it hurt his arm. The cuffs may not be the right size for oversized shirts. The material of the shirt is also very thin.
