Review on Kohler 1131481 Hot Ultraglide Valve Assembly: Efficient and Durable Metallic Concealed Valve Solution by Jeff Sorensen

Excellent Units: Rough Plumbing

I had leaking faucets in both master bathroom sinks - one hot (1131481) and one cold (1131482). The original valve assemblies were quite rusty, so I couldn't remove the cartridge, which is what most videos and manuals recommend. It seemed easier to just swap out the entire assembly. I first contacted Kohler, the manufacturer of the device. While they were helpful in recommending parts, their delivery was terribly slow. After waiting over a week for their delivery, I ordered from Revain, which was 25% cheaper than Kohler. Both units arrived at the same time and were identical. I ended up using Revain equipment for repairs. Both the hot and cold water valves have worked flawlessly so far. Credit to Kohler for refunding me for the units shipped. Strangely they told me to just keep the units since each was under $50. I suspect it's not worth tracking these small orders for them as most of their business deals directly with wholesalers and retailers. I should add that the design of these devices is different from the originals that were released about 15 years ago. The originals don't have a replaceable cartridge, but of course that could be because my build is badly rusted. The cylindrical body is narrower, but the original trim cap screwed perfectly into the top. Another nice feature is how the assembly attaches to the underside of the sink. Rather than using a single wide-opening nut like the original design, the new unit uses a nut/washer/bolt combination that is much easier to install and keeps the entire assembly sealed.
