At first we were reluctant to buy them due to quality problems and the alleged smell of the mats. As for durability, they hold up well. No problems with tearing etc and they are easy to clean. Re: smell. Yes, once you open them (and they're definitely "hard" to work with. There's nothing fragile or cheap about them), the smell is pretty bad. We just put them outside for two days and turned them over after the first day to make sure there were no odors underneath and the smell was completely gone. It didn't need to be washed or cleaned. This is a great product, so good we have ordered two more to have one on each door plus another for hunting/outdoor fun boots and shoes and another for cat food and water bowls. Great product, especially for the price. They are not expensive at all compared to cheaper and more fragile counterparts. I don't see these mats breaking like the ones we've had to buy in the past. If I could I would give them ten stars. It's worth it.
