Not the usual purpose
Our beach and stairway on Lake Michigan washed away with the outrageously high water levels, leaving only a small cliff. So I came up with the idea of using the escape ladder to get to and from the water. Works great. It is very sturdy and getting wet does not hurt it. A temporary solution, but it solved the problem for this season.
