Colors do not blend as smoothly as they could when layered. These are light and heavy pigments, so they are not thin. With decent brushes it's watery and makes work thin, but you can't thin on paper. They contain the mixing palette you need. Overall, for the price, it's a good game to play around with if you're learning the medium. But for professional use other products are better.
